I Believe Letters Help Leave Lasting Impact

To celebrate the release of my new book, Mother to Son: Letters to a Black Boy on Identity and Hope where I share a series of letters to my boys, Walter Wynn and Ezra Langston. The letters are about my journey as an African American Christian and what I want my boys to know as they grow up and approach the world as Christian black men.
As the release of Mother to Son approaches, I thought it would be neat to invite and “challenge” anyone interested to write one letter or a series of letters to your kids, a niece or nephew, a grandchild, spiritual child, or just the next generation on truths that they believe will have a lasting impact.

The Letter Challenge

March 16 - April 10

Those we parent or mentor today will impact the world while tomorrow. The letters in Mother to Son deal head-on with issues ranging from discipleship and marriage to biblical justice and I invite the world to read over my shoulder as I remind my boys that their identity is firmly planted in the person and work of Jesus Christ
That’s why I want to encourage readers by giving away a FREE TICKET to the 2020 TGC Women's Conference and a signed copy of Mother to Son to one participant who writes 4 letters. (Plus more great prizes for anyone who doesn’t quite reach that level too!)
And to help you with writing, we'll send you a challenge kit via email that includes a Mother to Son themed letter template and writing prompts.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • Who can enter the challenge?

Anyone in the United States and Canada.

  • How many landing pages can I create?

You can write as many landing pages as you want. But you only need to submit up to four to qualify.

  • Can I qualify for multiple tiers?

No. You’ll only qualify for the highest letter tier you reach. That means if you write 4 letters, you’ll only be eligible to win the 4 letter tier prizes.

  • Can I type my letters instead of writing them?

Of course! Whether handwritten or computer, we're happy to accept both. If you decide to submit handwritten copies, please make sure your handwriting is legible.

  • Can I join mid-challenge?

Absolutely! This will give you a little less time to write the letters but I'm confident you can do it.

  • How will you pick the Letter Challenge winner?

Due to the personal nature of the challenge, we will not attempt to use judges to choose the winner. A name will be chosen at random from each tier and if the person shows that they thoughtfully engage challenge, that person will be declared a winner.

  • How will you pick the Social prize winner?

To qualify for this prize, you will need to write at least one qualifying letter, and refer friends to the challenge. I will choose 3 winners who had the most referrers to enter and participate.

Referrals must be sent using your referral link that is available when you sign up. We'll be working behind the scenes to eliminate self-referrals, bots, and any other funny business, so keep it clean and happy referring!

  • Can I win one of the letter tier prizes as well as the bonus prizes?

Of course! I hope this motivates you to get after it.

  • Where can I read the official rules for this challenge?
